Measuring - Three Easy Steps
Please carefully follow the steps below.
Please carefully follow the steps below.
Important tips:
Use a soft measuring tape (NOT a contractor’s metal tape)
Measure over a thin, fitted camisole or undergarments similar to what will be worn with the dress
The child should be standing straight with shoulders and arms relaxed
For accurate measuring, hold tape flat against the body, neither tight nor loose.
When measuring, sometimes people will add a little here and there (or stick their finger under the tape measure!) to "be safe" – this makes for inconsistent measurements. It is really best to start with your child's true measurement, then decide which size to order. We can also help you once you have the measurements, please contact us for assistance.
1. For chest:
Hold tape nice and straight, keeping it parallel to floor as you measure around the chest.
The chest measurement is the circumference of the chest at its fullest point.
2. For waist:
Hold tape nice and straight, keeping it parallel to floor as you measure around the waist.
The waist measurement is the circumference of the waist, which is just above the belly button.
3. For shoulder to hem:
As indicated on the size chart drawing: start at the corner of the shoulder and neck and measure down to a point between the bottom of the calf and the top of the ankle (ballet length).
The "shoulder to hem" measurement on our size chart reflects the approximate full length of our dresses.
*NOTE: Tierney and Laurel are gown length, which is 2" – 3" longer than size chart.
Choosing Which Size to Order
Once you have these three measurements, match them up with our size chart to determine which size to order.
If any of your child's measurements fall between sizes or are split into two different sizes, we suggest you order the bigger size. Click here for special sizing options if you need a wider waist, or shorter or longer shoulder to hem.
If you have any questions at all or you need help determining which size is best to order, please email the measurements to us at info@katinakatoo.com or call us at (781) 556-5522.
If necessary, any alterations should be made by a seamstress or tailor once you receive your dress.
If you choose to have your child professionally measured by a tailor, it is important to bring our size chart and these measuring instructions with you.
